Transforming conflict strives to provide an in-depth understanding of conflict and a toolbox of skills to take an active role in intervening in and preventing it. You will be challenged to see conflict as an opportunity for constructive growth and transformation as we use a case study approach to learn a variety of analytical models. In the online learning format, you will participate in asynchronous instruction, case study analysis, films, reading, and reflective and analytical writing. Additionally, in two hours per week of synchronous (live) meetings, you will engage with the content through role-play activities, simulations, and interactive group work.
Module One introduces the Dimensions of Conflict model and enables you to identify the positions, interests, and underlying needs of parties in conflict and to use these to develop win-win solutions.
Module Two provides instruction on and practice in the skills and processes of mediation and negotiation.
Module Three focuses on arbitration in families, schools, and the criminal justice system and considers the role of restorative and transformative justice in healing communities.
Module Four gives you the opportunity to apply your learning to your own schools and communities.
